Tio's Garage & Taco Station opening to benefit school

Advertiser Staff

The new incarnation of Dixie Grill at 404 Ward Ave. will be Tio's Garage & Taco Station, a fully renovated Mexican-style restaurant scheduled to open Oct. 13 with a benefit for Hanahau'oli School where owner Ed Wary's daughter Maddy is a second-grader. The restaurant opens to the public for dinner on Oct. 16.

Wary (of Auntie Pasto's and the Aiea Dixie Grill) is the grandson of Mexican immigrants, who ran a a small gas station between Santa Fe and Albuquerque. His grandparents loved to cook so much that they'd cook too much, and began sharing food with customers and soon set up a cafe, selling more food than gas.

Wary and his chefs will bring a contemporary version of his grandparents' chili-cilantro-tomatillo-flavored cuisine, which he's called "New Mex," to this restaurant.

Tickets for the benefit are $150 per person and include food and entertainment. Reservations: 732-7733; prrrrr@hawaii.rr.com.
