St. Francis celebration includes animal blessing

St. Francis Healthcare System of Hawaii will be observing the Feast Day of St. Francis on Oct. 4 with two Masses and a blessing ceremony of animals.

Masses will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 3 at the St. Francis of Assisi Chapel at Hawaii Medical Center West, 91-2141 Fort Weaver Road in 'Ewa Beach, 678-7105; and 7 a.m. Oct. 4 in the Mother Marianne Cope Chapel at Hawaii Medical Center East, 2230 Liliha St., 547-6421.

The blessing ceremony is set for 1 p.m. Oct. 4 on the great lawn at Our Lady of Kea'au, 83-300 Farrington Highway in Wai'anae. Pet owners are invited to bring their dogs, cats, rabbits and birds for a blessing by the Rev. Sebastian Chako of Sacred Hearts parish. The Franciscan tradition of blessing animals is held in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi.
