Preps: Iolani rallies to knock off Pac-Five, 27-12

'Iolani surprisingly fell behind Pac-Five in the first half tonight, and needed a big play to turn things around.

Quarterback Kela Marciel and wide receiver Lionel Fujioka provided it — an 80-yard touchdown pass — and the play ignited an unanswered scoring run in a 27-12 victory at Aloha Stadium.

'Iolani improved to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu; Pac-Five dropped to 1-4 and 0-2.

Pac-Five led 12-0 after Phillip Sarubbi scored on a 9-yard run off the left side with 3:17 left before halftime to cap a 12-play, 85-yard drive.

It didn't take 'Iolani long to answer.

On the first play from scrimmage after the ensuing kickoff, Marciel scrambled away from pressure and hit Fujioka in stride over the middle of the field at the Wolf Pack 35. Kodi Look's conversion kick made it 12-7.

"They just scored and we came right back in one play and we were able to turn it around right there," said 'Iolani coach Wendell Look.

Raiders slot back Reid Furukawa caught a 29-yard touchdown pass from Marciel to give 'Iolani its first lead at 13-12 with 6:12 left in the third. Justin Yamamoto scored on a 3-yard run later in the third period, and Marciel scored on a 2-yard run in the fourth.

"A tough win, but it was good," Look said. "It was nice to see them keep their composure and come from behind."
