By The Maui News Staff

Maui Interscholastic League

Football notes

Lahainaluna vs. Trojans

Tonight at War Memorial Stadium, 7:30 p.m.

Keys to the game—The Lunas remained the only unbeaten team overall in the MIL after a 42-14 win over Kamehameha Maui last week. In three games, Lahainaluna has outscored its opponents 120-21, jumping to at least three-touchdown leads in the first quarter each time. ... The Trojans have shown flashes of large potential all year, but are staring at a two-game deficit in the seven-game league season with a loss. ... A win for the Lunas would put them in command of the Division II race. The Lunas have three rushers in the league's top 10 — Kailas McGhee, Jacob McCarthy and Lake Casco. ... The Trojans' top rusher is Keith Flores, who is 17th on the list. The Trojans are coming off their league bye week after a 27-19 loss at Kamehameha Maui. ... The Lunas are second in the league in offense (452.0 yards per game) and defense (182.0 ypg). The Trojans are last offensively (93.0 ypg) and fifth defensively (411.0 ypg).

Key players—Lahainaluna–QB Jake Manning; RB-DB Lake Casco; C Chauncey Kaukau; WR Chris Wanke. Trojans–QB-LB Buta Wilhelm-Ioane; RB-DB Garrett Gonsalves; RB-LB Jordan Kahalekai-Bermoy; OL-DL Joshua Carrizosa-Bernadas.

No. 5 Baldwin at King Kekaulike

Tomorrow at King Kekaulike Stadium, 7:30 p.m.

Keys to the game—For the fourth straight game, Baldwin's game-breaking receiver, Chase Nakamura, will sit out with a sore knee. "We will just sit him out again,'' Baldwin coach A.J. Roloos said to The Maui News. "I told him that 'I am more worried about your career than high school, so take your time coming back.' He understands.'' Roloos said that the first game after the break — Oct. 5 vs. Kamehameha — could be a possible return date, but made no promises. Roloos said he does not know the total extent of the soreness. "He just says it hurts, so I am going to leave it at that.'' Linebacker Kyle Kaaihue-Kaimiola, the 2006 MIL Defensive Player of the Year, has left the team, Roloos said. ... In their last meeting in October 2006, the Bears won 25-22 on a free-kick field goal on the final play. ... Baldwin is first in offense (522.0 ypg) and defense (141.0ypg). Kekaulike is third in offense (365.0 ypg) and defense (268.0 ypg).

Key players—Baldwin–QB Jordan Helle; RB Chansi Bolosan; SB-DB Skyler Cabacungan; OL-DL Sean Tesoro. King Kekaulike–QB Corry Roy; LB-FB Mikey Douglas; OL-DL Emelio Liu; DB-WR Jesse Henderson.
