Peace Day events kick off today at state Capitol

The first ever Hawaii State Peace Day Ceremony will get under way at 3:30 p.m. today at the state Capitol.

The events are as follows:

  • 3:30 p.m.: Peace Day Forum, hosted by the Matsunaga Institute for Peace

  • 5:15 p.m.: Hula performance

  • 5:25 p.m.: Conch Shell and Oli

  • 5:30 p.m.: Release of the Rainbow Pigeons — accompanying Vicki Gorman singing "Let there be Peace on Earth"; welcoming speech by Gov. Linda Lingle

  • 6 p.m.: Hongwanji Mission School performance of "Make a Difference"; speeches and more musical performances

  • 7 p.m.: Hongwanji Mission School performance of "Imagine"

  • 7:22 p.m.: Candle Light Ceremony with the Pacific Buddhist Academy

  • 7:25 p.m.: Hongwanji Mission School performance of "A Candle for Peace"
