BRITNEY CHARGED IN PARKING OOPS

LOS ANGELES Singer Britney Spears was charged yesterday with misdemeanor hit-and-run and driving a vehicle without a license. She could face up to a year in jail if convicted.

Spears allegedly struck a vehicle Aug. 6 in a Los Angeles parking lot and drove away, authorities said.

"The incident was captured on videotape," said Nick Velasquez, a spokesman for the city attorney's office.

Police investigated after the owner of the car made a complaint. Velasquez said a records check also found that she has no California license.

Spears was sent a letter yesterday informing her of the charges. She is scheduled to be arraigned Oct. 10. As the charges are misdemeanors, she won't be required to attend.

CLOONEY CRACKS A RIB IN COLLISION

LOS ANGELES George Clooney suffered a broken rib in New Jersey yesterday when a car collided with the motorcycle he was riding, his spokesman said.

The 46-year-old was treated at Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen, N.J., and released, his spokesman Stan Rosenfield said in a statement.

Clooney's passenger, Sarah Larson, suffered a broken foot.

"He's doing fine," Rosenfield said. "He has a broken rib, it's very painful and it'll take a long time to heal."

Clooney's latest film, "Michael Clayton," will be released next month.
