Waianae man lost control of motorcycle in fatal crash

Advertiser Staff

A 53-year-old Wai'anae man was killed last night when he lost control of his motorcycle while leaving Aloha Stadium.

Police said the motorcyclist was headed up a ramp that connects the stadium with the eastbound lanes of the Moanalua Freeway when the brakes on the white 2005 Yamaha he was riding locked up, sending him into a guardrail.

Police vehicular homicide investigators said the rider, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the motorcycle and came to rest on a dirt area below the ramp.

The man was declared dead at the scene with severe head and body injuries, police said.

Speed appeared to be a factor in the fatal crash, and it is not known yet if drugs or alcohol played a part.

The motorcycle rider's death was the 48th traffic fatality on O'ahu so far this year compared to 67 during the same period of time last year, police said.
