Man seriously injured in early-morning Waikiki fight

Advertiser Staff

A 22-year-old man arrested early today for questioning about a man knocked unconscious in Waikiki was later released by police pending further investigation.

The man was arrested in front of 310 Lewers St. at 4:55 a.m. on suspicion of second-degree assault after another man, 35, was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in serious condition with a possible broken jaw.

The two men were involved in an argument that led to the older man shoving the suspect, who allegedly retaliated with a punch to the face.

The victim fell to the ground with the back of his head hitting the sidewalk. The man was unconscious for about 30 seconds, police said.

The man arrested was released at 5:50 a.m.
