Waialua man, 80, died of injuries from car crash

The Honolulu Medical Examiner's office today identified an 80-year-old man who died Sept. 16 at The Queen's Medical Center from injuries suffered in a car crash Sept. 5 on Kaukonahua Road as Susumu Nekoishi of Waialua.

Nekoishi's death was O'ahu's 47th traffic fatality of the year and preceded Saturday night's 48th fatality of a motorcyclist near Aloha Stadium.

According to vehicular homicide investigators, Nekoishi was injured when his car veered off Kaukonahua Road, struck a dirt embankment, rolled over and hit a utility pole guideline.

He was taken to Queen's, where he died 11 days later at 5:50 a.m.

Cause of death was blunt force injuries due to a motor vehicle collision and manner of death was accidental, according to autopsy findings.
