A Makakilo man was charged yesterday with second-degree murder in the death of his wife.

Michael Schuette, 45, of a Hame Street address is being held in lieu of $500,000 bail pending his initial appearance tomorrow at District Court.

He is accused of killing his 49-year-old wife, Victoria Schuette, who died at an unnamed hospital Sept. 10.

Police initially classified the case as an unattended death until an autopsy determined the death was a homicide.

Victoria Schuette died of breathing difficulties caused by force, police said.

Police arrested Michael Schuette Friday.

He and his wife were arguing in the back yard of their home at about 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 10 when police were told she fell and became unresponsive.
