'Big Read' program kicks off today in Hawaii

The launch of a statewide program designed to promote reading is today.

Gov. Linda Lingle is taking part in announcing "Big Read," an initiative led by the National Endowment for the Arts. Partners for the project include the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest.

Innovative reading programs will be detailed that are designed to increase reading skills and offer the opportunity for people to read and discuss books within their community.

The kickoff takes place in the executive chambers of the state Capitol from 11:30 a.m. to noon.
