Perry to be sworn in as Kauai police chief Monday

Darryl Perry will be sworn in as Kaua'i's seventh police chief Monday at Kaua'i War Memorial Convention Hall at 3:30 p.m.

The Kaua'i Police Department has 125 sworn officers. He was selected from a field of 66 candidates.

Perry started his 33-year law enforcement career as a Kaua'i police officer. He transferred to the Honolulu Police Department and retired as a major who commanded he Juvenile Services, Narcotics/Vice, and Criminal Investigations divisions.

Following his HPD retirement in 2002, Perry worked as chief of security for First Hawaiian Bank on O'ahu, an investigator with the state Attorney General's office, and as an adjunct professor at Honolulu Community College in the Justice of Administration Program.

Perry earned an associate of arts degree from Kaua'i Community College and an associate of science degree from Honolulu Community College. He also holds a bachelors of arts degree in justice administration from Hawai'i Pacific University and a masters of arts degree in organizational management from University of Phoenix.

Perry and his wife, Solette, have been married 32 years. The family includes a daughter and granddaughter.

Perry's hobbies include competitive bicycling, chess and reading.
