Gas leak reported on Farrington Highway in Waianae

Advertiser Staff

About 30 people evacuated from two buildings in the area of 85-888 Farrington Highway because of a propane gas leak today have been allowed to return, the Honolulu Fire Department said.

Fire department spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig said a gas leak was reported at the S&L building in Wai'anae at 12:12 p.m. Officials evacuated people in that building, as well as a neighboring building and nearby residences on Mill Street.

Police also closed part of the road until The Gas Company stopped the leak.

The road reopened and those evacuated were allowed to return at about 1:30 p.m., he said.
