The Lyon Arboretum has adopted a code of conduct to help protect the Islands from invasive ornamental plants.

The botanical garden in Manoa has pledged to examine its vision, mission and policies to stem the spread of invasive plants, and will review its entire collection, weeding out or cutting back species that could prove harmful.

It is the first botanical garden in the Islands to adopt a code on invasive plants.

Christopher Dunn, arboretum director, said botanical gardens should be "mindful of the actual and potential impacts of non-native plants on our natural habitats." The arboretum was established in 1918.
