Stryker meeting tonight on Big Island

Advertiser Staff

A public meeting on plans to permanently station a Stryker brigade combat team in Hawai'i will be at Aunty Sally Kaleohano's Luau Hale in Hilo today, followed by another meeting at the Waimea Community Center on Wednesday.

The meetings are to discuss an environmental impact statement the U.S. Army prepared to comply with a federal appeals court order. The order found the Army violated environmental law by failing to adequately consider other possible locations for the brigade.

The new report weighs basing the brigade in Hawai'i, Alaska or Colorado.

Both of the Big Island meetings start at 5:30 p.m.
