Advertiser Staff

The McKinley High School Foundation will honor alumna Maj. Ladda "Tammy" Duckworth at a tribute dinner on Oct. 18, at the Hilton Hawaiian Village's Coral Ballroom.

Duckworth, a Class of 1985 McKinley graduate, will be honored for her commitment to serving her community and her country. Duckworth piloted a Black Hawk helicopter in the National Guard, which was shot down while on deployment in Iraq. She suffered serious injuries including the loss of both legs and the use of her right arm. Upon recovery, Duckworth went on to become director of Veteran Affairs for the state of Illinois.

"We are pleased to have this opportunity to pay tribute to such a deserving individual," stated Carl Takamura, president of the McKinley High School Foundation. "Major Tammy Duckworth is truly inspirational, exemplifying the values of the McKinley Code of Honor: Honesty, Industry, Courage, and Love."

Proceeds from the dinner will go towards providing scholarships for McKinley graduates.
