Hawaii's August unemployment rate steady at 2.6%

The state's unemployment rate remained steady in August at 2.6 percent, unchanged from the previous month, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.With a seasonably adjusted rate of 2.6 percent, Hawai'i was tied with Utah for the No. 2 spot in the country. Idaho continued to have the country's lowest unemployment rate at 2.4 percent, while Michigan had the highest at 7.4 percent.
Nationally, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 4.6 percent in August also was identical to the July rate.
Hawai'i has not had an unemployment rate at or above 3 percent since December 2004. In August 2006, the state's unemployment was at 2.3 percent.
The state Department of Labor is to release more detailed jobless statistics later.
