WAI'ANAE
Gas leak forces 30 to evacuate

Advertiser Staff

A propane gas leak in the S&L building in Wai'anae yesterday prompted fire officials to temporarily evacuate about 30 people from the building and nearby structures.

The gas leak at the building at 85-888 Farrington Highway was reported at about 12:12 p.m., said Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig. Fire officials evacuated the S&L building, as well as a nearby building and neighboring homes on Mill Street. Police also closed part of the highway for about an hour until The Gas Co. stopped the leak.

People were allowed back into the buildings at about 1:30 p.m.
