A fire yesterday caused $310,000 damage to a wooden two-story Nanakuli home, Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig said.

Cause of the 2:06 p.m. fire at 87-1594 Farrington Highway across from Nanakuli Beach Park is under investigation. No injuries were reported.

Seelig said structural damage is estimated at $250,000 with losses to contents at $60,000. The top level of the home is destroyed, while the ground level section sustained heavy water damage, said Seelig.

A family of six lives on the top level, while eight others — four adults and four children — reside on the ground floor.

The families have requested assistance from the Hawai'i chapter of the American Red Cross, said Seelig.

PLEA DEAL REACHED IN SEX ASSAULT

A 34-year-old Florida man convicted of flying to Hawai'i to have sex with an underage girl he met on the Internet has been sentenced to five years' probation.

Anthony Scott Waterman spent nearly a year in jail before reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors.

He was originally charged with multiple counts of first- and third-degree sexual assault but pleaded guilty to third-degree charges only. Third-degree sex assault involves touching or fondling offenses but not sexual penetration.

Waterman will be required to register as a sex offender and can apply to return to Florida.

Waterman claimed the victim, 15, told him she was 25 years old and was looking for a husband. The victim later admitted that she lied to Waterman about her age.

Waterman was arrested in November at Honolulu International Airport after the victim told police he had sexually assaulted her in a rented room in Kane'ohe.

MOTORCYCLIST DIED OF HEAD INJURIES

A motorcyclist killed Saturday night while leaving Aloha Stadium was identified yesterday by the medical examiner's office as Rick Harris, 53, of Wai'anae.

An autopsy yesterday determined cause and manner of death as cranial cerebral injuries.

Police vehicular homicide investigator Sgt. Lorenzo Ridella said the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet.

WOMAN ARRESTED IN KAILUA BRAWL

An 18-year-old Honokai Hale woman was arrested yesterday at the Kapolei police station for attempted murder stemming from an early morning brawl in Kailua on Sept. 9.

The woman allegedly drove a vehicle at a police officer during the 1:30 a.m. incident on Hekili Street.

The brawl started outside a bar on Hekili Street, was broken up by police and resumed a short time later.

A 21-year-old Honokai Hale man was arrested during the incident for allegedly punching a police officer. He was also arrested for second-degree robbery.
