Cookout guest arrested in tie to theft

A 20-year-old man was arrested yesterday after a 23-year-old woman told police the man confessed to stealing $1,100 from her Wai'anae home during a cookout Monday night.

The woman told police she had a number of friends come to her home for a barbecue party between 8:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. Monday.

She said the man was the only one to enter her home during the party.

The woman told police that she discovered the money was missing after the party and confronted the man the next day.

She told police the man admitted taking the money, gave $100 back and said he could not remember what happened to the rest.

Police arrested the man yesterday on suspicion of second-degree theft.

Man on street corner lashes out at Good Samaritan

A 29-year-old man with no local address was arrested late last night at the corner of North Hotel Street and Nuu'anu Avenue after he allegedly threatened to stab a 40-year-old man who had stopped to ask the younger man if he was OK.

Police were told the younger man was standing on the street corner when the older man stopped to offer help. The younger man then reportedly pulled out a knife while making verbal threats toward the other man.

Police were called and arrested the younger man on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening.

The man was taken to the main police station for booking and while there, officers reported finding brass knuckles and a driver's license belonging to someone else. The man was then arrested on suspicion of possession of a dangerous weapon and unauthorized control of confidential personal information.
