POLICE BEAT
'Ewa Beach wife's killing detailed in court

A 45-year-old 'Ewa Beach man, who has been indicted on a murder charge, "compressed" his wife face-first into the ground in their backyard, asphyxiating her, prosecutors said.

Michael Schuette was arrested Friday on suspicion of killing his wife, Victoria, 49, on Sept. 10.

He was being held in lieu of $500,000 bail.

Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Rom Trader said in court yesterday that the death occurred during a domestic altercation over home "landscaping issues."

When the victim, who was just over 5 feet tall and weighed 130 pounds, fell in the backyard, Schuette, who weighs 270 pounds, lay on top of her, "compressing her into the ground," Trader said.

Victoria Schuette filed for divorce in April and had asked her husband to move out, but he resisted that request, Trader said in court.

There were "prior incidents of unreported domestic violence," the prosecutor said.

The couple owned four homes and had been unable to agree on distribution of their assets, he said.
