Lawmakers touring Big Island correctional facilities

State lawmakers will tour Big Island correctional facilities today and hold hearings to gather comments from the public on the prison system.Members of the House Public Safety and Military Affairs Committee and the Senate Public Safety Committees will meet for a briefing at the Hilo County Council office from noon to 1 p.m., with video teleconferencing set up to accept public comments from the Waimea County Council office and the Kona County Council office.
Lawmakers will also meet from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Hawaii County Economic Opportunity Council offices.
