Man arrested on Big Island as sex assault suspect

Advertiser Staff

Big Island police arrested a 26-year-old Ka'u man yesterday in connection with a report of a sexual assault.

The man, a resident of Hawaiian Oceanview Estates, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of first-degree sexual assault stemming from an alleged incident on Saturday.

A woman from Ka'u reported that while she was with the suspect in the area of Ka'alu'alu Bay in Ka'u, he held her against her will and sexually assaulted her. The woman said the man later released her, after she suffered injuries to her body.

The suspect is being held at the Kona police station cell block on three unrelated contempt of court charges.

The investigation into the sexual assault complaint is continuing.
