Genoa Keawe performs tomorrow on Beach Walk

Hawai'i's venerable First Lady of Song, Auntie Genoa Keawe, will perform from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Waikiki Beach Walk.She is this month's featured star in the ongoing free Na Mele No Na Pua Concert series, staged at the Grand Lana'i of the new Embassy Suites resort, one of the anchor hotels in the Waikiki Beach Walk redevelopment.
Keawe, 88, has recorded more than 20 albums and 150 singles in a distinguished career that started at age 12 but turning professional when she appeared with John K. Almeida in 1939 on his radio show.
Her signature song, "Alika," is characterized by her her enduring falsetto voice held in the upper register for more than two minutes.
