Hawaii Coast Guard team competing in Toronto

A team of U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary members from the Fourteenth Coast Guard District in Hawai'i are competing today and tomorrow in the 2007 International Search and Rescue (ISAR) Competition in Toronto.

ISAR is an annual, competitive event among Coast Guard Auxiliary teams from the United States and Canada, with each group demonstrating various skills in the fields of search and rescue.

Six U.S. Coast Guard and six Canadian Coast Guard teams will compete. Each team will have four members and will compete in events including, chartwork, search planning, on-water rescue, and emergency dewatering pump operations, radio communications, lifeline throwing, marlin spike/rope work and damage control.

Hawai'i members representing the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliaries Fourteenth District include Bruce Takayama (Pearl City), Larry Hinojosa (Wai'anae), Paul Merhib (Kona) and Al Chang (Kane'ohe).
