Oceanic launches security Web site after phishing scam

Advertiser Staff

Oceanic Time Warner Cable today said it launched a new Internet security Web site at http://security.aroundhawaii.com/phishing.html to provide safety tips regarding a current "phishing" scam and general Internet security. The "phishing" scam is circulating through Road Runner subscribers' e-mail inboxes requesting personal account information.

"Unfortunately, 'phishing' is becoming more and more prevalent in today's Internet society," said Oceanic Vice President-Marketing Alan Pollock. "Regardless of how authentic the e-mail and message may look, you should never provide billing, account or password information via e-mail."

Road Runner subscribers have reported receiving fraudulent e-mails requesting personal user billing information. "Our corporate office would never request any type of billing, account or password information via e-mail," added Pollock.
