Public reading of "Joy Luck Club" Sunday

The first free event of The Big Read will be a staged reader theatre-style performance of Amy Tan's "The Joy Luck Club" at Richardson Theater, Fort Shafter, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30.The story takes us on a journey from pre-World War II China to modern-day United States through the words and lives of four mothers and their very westernized daughters.
The 45-minute performance will be followed by a question and answer session led by University of Hawai'i-Manoa professor, Frank Stewart.
The NEA sponsors "The Big Read" program.
