Adult daycare rates lower here

Advertiser Staff

The average daily rate for adult daycare in Honolulu is lower than the national average, according to a survey done for the MetLife Mature Market Institute.

The study found the average daily rate in Honolulu was $58 a day, or the same as in Little Rock, Ark., and Louisville, Ky.

That compared with the average national daily rate of $61.

The highest rate was in Vermont at $130 daily, while the lowest was in Montgomery, Ala., at $21.

"Adult day center and home care services are extremely important options to help older adults 'age in place,' which, according to current research, is a priority for Americans," said Sandra Timmermann, Ed.D., director of the MetLife Mature Market Institute, in a media release.

"This data clearly shows that services can be costly in many parts of the country and may be difficult for families to afford."

When it came to pay, MetLife said the average hourly rate paid home healthcare aides was $23 an hour here. That compared with the national rate of $19.

The average Honolulu hourly rate for a homemaker/companion was $20. Nationally the average was $18.
