TWO NIGHTS OF LUSHLIFE

The LushLife Music Festival, 7 p.m. Oct. 27-28 at Live at the rRed Elephant (1144 Bethel St.), showcases some of the island's top musical acts.

On the Oct. 27 lineup: the Honolulu Jazz Quartet, jazz pianist Rich Crandall and Quadraphonix. Oct. 28: DeShannon Higa's Groove Improv Artists, Tempo Valley and the Windward Jazz Quartet.

Comedian Dark Sevier hosts; 10 percent of the proceeds will go to the University of Hawai'i Jazz Band.

SHANGHAI QUARTET COMING

The acclaimed Shanghai Quartet kicks off the 51st Honolulu Chamber Music Series season next month.

The quartet, which has an East/West repertoire that includes Chinese folk music and contemporary classical pieces, has issued more than 20 recordings on multiple labels.

The concert is at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa's Orvis Auditorium. Tickets are $30 advance, $35 at the door general admission; $18 and $29 for students and Honolulu Symphony musicians. www.etickethawaii.com, 483-7123.
