Advertiser Staff

Hawai'i Island United Way has received a $50,000 donation from First Hawaiian Bank for a fund that provides money to 50 health and human service programs offered through 35 local nonprofit organizations on the Big Island.

The gift was made in memory of the late John W.A. "Doc" Buyers, the former president and chief executive officer of C. Brewer & Co. Ltd.

"First Hawaiian Bank is pleased to be making this gift in memory of Doc Buyers, who believed strongly in giving back to the community," said First Hawaiian Bank Senior Vice President and Hawai'i Region Manager Winston K.H. Chow.
