Class series to discuss Buddhist principles

Advertiser Staff

The Buddhist Study Center will discuss "Foundations of Buddhism," a free study class that runs at 7 p.m. Wednesdays from tomorrow through May 7.

This class is a survey of the basic concepts of Buddhism as a worldwide religious and philosophical system of thought, focusing on the Four Noble Truths, the Eightfold Path, and the Four Buddhist Seals. It explores related ideas such as the genesis of Buddhist thought in the Vedic tradition, Orientalism in historical and modern Buddhist studies, whether contemporary English definitions of "religion" are applicable to Buddhism, and assumptions about the nature of religion inherent in Buddhism.

This class is taught from a non-denominational Buddhist perspective.
