The Honolulu medical examiner's office today identified the motorcyclist who died March 18 from injuries suffered in a collision on Date Street in Kapahulu as Dennis John Hogan Jr.

Hogan's identity had to be confirmed by fingerprints causing delay in the release of his name. Hogan, 44, was taken to in critical condition to The Queen's Medical Center, where he died at 9:59 p.m. The collision on Date Street, 41 feet east of La'au Street, occurred at 8:41 p.m.

Police vehicular homicide investigator Sgt. Michael Brede said Hogan was injured when his 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle clipped the right corner of a a Chevy sedan he was attempting to overtake in a westbound lane on Date Street. The contact caused Hogan to lose control of the motorcycle, which collided with a parked Mitsubishi sedan.

Hogan was not using a helmet, police said.

Autopsy findings listed cause of death as multiple traumatic injuries due to a motor vehicle collision and manner as accidental. Based on lab results, alcohol intoxication was determined to be a factor, according to the ME's office.

Speed was also a contributing factor, police said.
