Big Isle police fueling dreams for Special Olympians

Advertiser Staff

Big Island police will be sponsoring the 3rd Annual "Fueling Dreams" for Special Olympics from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday in Hilo and Kona.

"Fueling Dreams," a part of the "Troy Barboza Law Enforcement Torch Run," is a coordinated project of the Hawaii County Police Department and Tesoro-Hawaii to raise awareness and funds for athletes of Special Olympics Hawaii.

During this project, off-duty officers, volunteer department employees and Tesoro-Hawaii employees will greet customers and offer to fill their gas tanks and clean their windows. Tesoro-Hawaii will offer discounted gas, free balloons and other incentives for patrons. In return, families and athletes of Special Olympics Hawaii will ask for donations.

"Fueling Dreams" is being held simultaneously throughout the state. The Hilo event will be held at the Tesoro Gas Station on Kamehameha Avenue, at the corner of Ponahawai Street. The Kona event will be held at the Tesoro Gas Station on Queen Kaahumanu Highway, just north of the Kealakehe Police Station.
