TONIGHT'S MIGHT-SEE

"Criminal Minds," 8 p.m.; and "CSI:NY," 9 p.m., both CBS. This is the month when scripted dramas finally return with post-strike episodes. Here are two of the first ones back. At 8 p.m., Rossi (Joe Mantegna) takes a personal case from almost 20 years ago, probing the murder of young parents. At 9 p.m., a tip leads the team to a warehouse — and then to the virtual world, chasing one of the most wanted criminals.

"Return to the Amazon," 10 p.m., PBS. The Amazon River is an awesome force — 4,000 miles long, winding through nine countries. Jacques Cousteau explored it 25 years ago; now his son (Jean-Michel) and grandchildren (Fabien and Celine) get an updated view. This film (concluding next week) ranges from beautiful travelog to serious documentary. At other times, it's a sleepy stroll, spending too much time on the process of the trip.

OF NOTE:

"That Thing You Do" (1996), 4:30 p.m., TV Land. There are buoyant moments in this tale of teens creating a 1960s pop group. Tom Hanks directed it and co-starred.

"American Idol," 8 p.m., Fox. In the 250th episode, the field is trimmed to eight.

"Law & Order: Criminal Intent," 8 p.m., NBC. When a body washes up on shore, Goren and Eames probe the world of deep-sea diving.

"Law & Order," 9 p.m., NBC. Three roommates are dead. Police suspect a romantic tangle; then the probe leads to politicians and a scam artist.

"Men in Trees," 9 p.m., ABC. Morgan Fairchild visits town, to sing the anthem at a hockey game. She might stay and make a movie there.

"DEA" debut, 8 p.m., Spike. There's lots of tension in this view of Drug Enforcement Agency work in Detroit, but don't expect chases and shootouts. Mostly, we get tough cops, working on tips and doing raids with stark efficiency.
