'Today' show to feature Island's Broadway star

By Wayne Harada

Island singer-actress Loretta Ables Sayre, making her debut tonight as Bloody Mary in Lincoln Center Theater's "South Pacific" musical, will appear on NBC's "Today" show shortly after 9:30 a.m. this morning.

The five-minute segment had been pegged for a slot between 8:30 and 9 a.m. Hawai'i time, but actually delayed about an hour later on the Mainland, where it was already shown.

This is an update of a print edition item on Ables Sayre's big day in New York City, where she makes her first Broadway appearance in the revival of the Rodgers & Hammerstein classic, singing "Bali Ha'i," one of the show's signature tunes.
