Earth Day event looks at St. Francis, Buddha

"Celebrating Earth Day with St. Francis of Assisi and the Buddha" will be 3 p.m. April 19 at Chaminade University's Ching Conference Center, 2nd floor Eiben Hall.

The free program includes the film "Reluctant Saint: Francis of Assisi," with a presentation on his life as the patron saint of ecology by Leslie Sponsel, director of the Ecological Anthropology Program at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, and a Buddhist response by Michael Kieran, teacher at Honolulu Diamond Sangha, Palolo Zen Center.

The program is sponsored by Hawaii Association of International Buddhists Women and Environment Committee and Chaminade Gender Studies.
