As if the sobs of a kid with a splinter weren't bad enough, there are often more tears when a grownup tries to pull the splinter out. But for this week's Mom-Tested Tip from Hawaii Moms.com, a mom who goes by the screen name Eileenfrom671 offers this idea: "Instead of using tweezers to take out splinters, try using Scotch tape. Just lay the tape over the splinter and pull it back. It won't hurt at all. It's especially good for little ones. ... With the tape, they can do it themselves."

WALKING IN THE DARK

AVOIDING DANGER IN THE NIGHT

Sometimes the only time we can fit in our walk is in the early morning or after the sun has set. Some tips for staying safe: Wear light-colored, reflective clothing. Stay on well-lit streets with good sidewalks. Take a friend with you or carry a whistle. If your area is particularly dark, carry a small flashlight or wear a headlamp to light your path. Remember to always be careful when crossing the street or walking off road or on uneven pavement.
