Oahu roadwork resumes today

The State Department of Transportation has announced several road construction projects around Oahu today through Friday. All are weather permitting.

H-1 FREEWAY

Three rightmost lanes of the H-1 Freeway Airport Viaduct will be closed in the westbound direction from the Airport on-ramp to the Kamehameha Highway.

H-1 WESTBOUND TWO-LANES, LIKELIKE HIGHWAY ONRAMP CLOSURES (Night Work)

Two rightmost lanes will be closed in the westbound direction for repairs to damaged overpass structures at the following locations and times:

  • From the Likelike Highway off-ramp (Exit 20A) to Richard Lane through Wednesday morning from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m., nightly, for repairs to the Gulick Street Overpass. During these closures, the H-1 westbound on-ramp from Likelike Highway will also be closed.

  • Likelike Highway motorists seeking to access the westbound H-201 Moanalua Freeway are advised to detour to North School Street, Middle Street, and proceed to the next available on-ramp near the Kaua Street intersection.

  • Likelike Highway motorists seeking to access the westbound H-1 Freeway Airport Viaduct are advised to detour to North School Street, Middle Street, and proceed to the next available on-ramp near the Kamehameha Highway intersection.

  • From Houghtailing Street to the Kalihi Street Overpass on Wednesday night through Friday morning from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m., nightly, for repairs to the Kalihi Street Overpass. During these closures, the H-1 westbound Likelike Highway off-ramp (Exit 20A) will remain open.

    WAIPAHU TO WAIKELE (Night Work)

    Lane closures on the H-1 Freeway and Paiwa Street from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., nightly, for pavement surfacing at the following locations and dates:

  • On Monday night the leftmost lanes on Paiwa Street will be closed in both directions, between Hiapo Street and the Waikele Premium Outlets mall.

  • On Tuesday night, both northbound lanes on Paiwa Street will be closed between Hiapo Street and Lumiaina Street. Northbound traffic will be contraflowed using one southbound lane.

  • On Wednesday night both southbound lanes on Paiwa Street will be closed between Lumiaina Street and Hiapo Street. Southbound traffic will be contraflowed using one northbound lane.

  • On Thursday night the rightmost lane on Paiwa Street will be closed in the southbound direction. During these hours, the westbound H-1 on-ramp from Paiwa Street will also be closed. Westbound motorists are advised to use the next available H-1 on-ramp at Kunia Road and surface streets such as Farrington Highway or Waipahu Street as alternate routes.

    H-1 AIRPORT VIADUCT EASTBOUND THREE-LANE CLOSURE (Night Work)

    Three rightmost lanes will be closed in the eastbound direction from the Airport off-ramp (Exit 16) to the Middle Street Tunnel through Thursday morning from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m., nightly, for concrete pavement repair work.

    All on-and-off-ramps will remain open during this time. Single lane closures may also be implemented on Nimitz Highway below the viaduct during these hours as a safety precaution.

    MANOA TO KAHALA (Night Work)

    Median shoulder and possible left lane closures in both directions from University Avenue to the H-1 Freeway terminus at Kalanianaole Highway through Thursday morning from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., nightly, for drainage inspections and maintenance.

    H-2 FREEWAY

    1) HONOLULU-BOUND MEHEULA PARKWAY ON-RAMP CLOSURE

    H-2 Freeway Honolulu-bound on-ramp from Mililani Town on Meheula Parkway will be closed through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, for pavement repairs and lane striping.

    Honolulu-bound motorists are advised to use alternate routes such as Kamehameha Highway or to proceed along Meheula Parkway, u-turn at the Ainamakua Drive intersection and use the H-2 Freeway Honolulu-bound loop on-ramp from the Makai-bound lanes.

    During these hours, the Meheula Parkway sidewalk on the Mauka-bound side will also be closed from Kuahelani Avenue to the bus stop at 1618 Meheula Parkway. Mauka-bound pedestrians are advised to cross Meheula Parkway at the Kuahelani Avenue intersection and use the opposite sidewalk.

    LEILEHUA INTERCHANGE

    Shoulder and possible right lane closures in both directions near the Leilehua Golf Course Road Overpass at the Leilehua Interchange through Frida from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, for guardrail repairs.

    FARRINGTON HIGHWA

    WAIALUA, NANAKULI TO MAKAHA

    Single lane closures in both directions through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, at the following locations:

  • From Nanakuli to Makaha between Haleakala Avenue and Lawaia Street for concrete bus pad construction and various contractor permit projects including electrical pole replacements and installations of watermains, communications lines and manholes.

  • Near the Hawaiian Electric Co. Kahe Power Plant for guardrail repairs.

  • In Waialua, from Kaena Point to Kaukonahua Road, for lane striping and marker installations.

    KAHEKILI HIGHWAY

    KANEOHE

    Left lane closures between Kulukeoe Street and Haiku Road in both directions through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, for the removal of existing drainage systems and water line adjustments.

    KALANIANAOLE HIGHWAY

    NEAR CASTLE JUNCTION

    Right-lane closure in the Kailua-bound direction between Castle Junction and Kapaa Quarry Road through Friday from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for erosion control work.

    Work and lane closures are scheduled at this site on weekdays through May 2008. roject contractor Prometheus Construction will be anchoring mesh safety netting to the adjacent hillside to stabilize the slope.

    KAMEHAMEHA HIGHWAY

    1) PEARL HARBOR

    Single lane closures in the eastbound direction from Makalapa Road to Valkenburgh Street through Frida from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., daily, for lane striping and lane marker installations.

    2) PEARL CITY TO AIEA

    Rolling lane closures in both directions between Kuala Street in Pearl City to Honomanu Street/McGrew Loop in Aiea through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., daily, for pothole patching.

    3) MILILANI TO WHEELER AAF

    Southbound traffic will be contraflowed using the northbound lanes between Lehua Road and Waikalani Drive through Friday from 8:30 a.m. through 3 p.m.

    24-hour lane closures will also be in effect, seven-days-a-week at the following locations:

  • Left and right lane closures in the southbound direction between Lehua Road and Waihau Street.

  • Left and right lane closures in the northbound direction between Lehua Road and Santos Dumont Avenue.

    Portable concrete barriers will be closing these lane segments for shoulder widening and curb construction.

    4) KOKOLOLIO BRIDGE CONTRAFLOW IN HAUULA

    A traffic contraflow is scheduled over the Kokololio Bridge in Hauula on Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., daily. One lane will be closed for lane marking installations and traffic will be directed through the remaining open lane.

    LIKELIKE HIGHWAY

    1) UPPER KALIHI AREA

    Lane closures in the Honolulu-bound direction at the following locations and times:

  • Right lane closure between Valley View Drive and School Street through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., daily, for roadside tree-trimming.

  • Moving lane closure inside the Honolulu-bound Wilson Tunnel on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon, for drainage inspections and maintenance.

    ALA MOANA BOULEVARD ---

    DOWNTOWN TO ALA MOANA (Day & Night Work)

    Multiple lane closures in both directions from Fort Street to Piikoi Street through Friday morning from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., nightly, for the installation of vehicle detectors.

  • All westbound lanes will be closed between South Street and Richards Street from 8 p.m. on Wednesday night to 5 a.m. on Thursday morning. Westbound traffic will be detoured onto South Street and Queen Street and directed past the work area.

  • All eastbound lanes will be closed between Richards Street and Punchbowl Street from 8 p.m. on Thursday night, to 5 a.m. on Friday morning. Eastbound traffic will be contraflowed using one westbound lane.

  • One lane will be closed in the westbound direction between Cooke Street and Coral Street from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for drainage system repairs.

    ALA MOANA TO WAIKIKI

    Single lane closure in the westbound direction between Kalakaua Avenue and Kalia Road through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, for driveway, sidewalk, curb and gutter construction.

    This improvements project will include the reconstruction and resurfacing of pavement areas, the addition of a fourth eastbound lane from Hobron Lane to Kalia Road, the lengthening of left-turn stacking lanes onto Hobron Lane and Kalia Road, center median landscaping enhancements designed in consultation with the Outdoor Circle, replacement of highway lighting with decorative lighting similar to Kalakaua Avenue, and the reconstruction of portions of pedestrian sidewalks and driveways.

    These road improvements will be paid for by the Hilton Hotels Corporation as part of a larger development surrounding the construction of The Grand Waikikian Tower, adjacent to the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa. Hilton has also established a construction information hotline at 948-7600 and an informational website at www.villagerejuvenation.com. Project completion is anticipated in December 2008.

    FORT WEAVER ROAD

    EWA

    Single lane closures in both directions through Friday at the following locations and times:

  • Southbound Direction (from 8 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.)

  • Left lane closure between Laulaunui Street and Old Fort Weaver Road for trenching work for the installation of electrical conduits.

  • Single lane closure from Old Fort Weaver Road to Renton Road for temporary lane striping.

  • Northbound Direction (from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.)

  • Intermittent right lane closure from Aawa Drive to the Honouliuli Stream Bridge for drainage system construction.

    PUULOA ROAD

    1) MAPUNAPUNA

    Various lane closures on Puuloa Road between Kamehameha Highway and Salt Lake Boulevard through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, at the following locations:

  • Shoulder lanes in both directions closed. Roadside parking will not be permitted.

  • Modified traffic pattern is in effect on Mokumoa Street between Puuloa Road and Mapunapuna Street for drainage work. No large vehicles are allowed through this area. One lane of travel in each direction is available for cars.

    PAIWA STREET

    NEAR H-1 FREEWAY (Night Work)

    Lane closures on the H-1 Freeway and Paiwa Street from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., nightly, for pavement surfacing at the following locations and dates:

  • Tonight, the leftmost lanes on Paiwa Street will be closed in both directions, between Hiapo Street and the Waikele Premium Outlets mall.

  • On Tuesday night both northbound lanes on Paiwa Street will be closed between Hiapo Street and Lumiaina Street. Northbound traffic will be contraflowed using one southbound lane.
