Aumakua Music Festival premieres Saturday

Advertiser Staff

Tickets are on sale for the first annual 'Aumakua Records Music Festival, featuring a line-up of musical artists on the 'Aumakua label, in addition to two short films and a collection of local artwork. The festival is set for 7 p.m. April 12 in the Mamiya Theatre, 3142 Wai'alae Ave., Honolulu.

Proceeds will benefit the 'Aumakua Music Project (AMP). Through AMP, local artists receive assistance in recording and producing an album of their music, after which artists are able to take their finished masters, which they own, and chose the best direction for their career through independent promotion or a record label.

Acts scheduled to perform include Kalae Mills, Stephen Inglis, Shawn Livingston Moseley, S and S, Millicent Cummings, Evasive Species and special guest Cindy Combs. The genres range from Hawaiian slack key to alternative, neo-classical and hip hop. Slam poet Kealoha will host.

Tickets, $22.50, can be purchased through the Honolulu Box Office at www.honoluluboxoffice.com or 550-8457. Tickets may also be purchased at the door for $25.

The AMP is a division of the nonprofit organization, The Forward Foundation. Tax-deductible donations for AMP may be sent to The Forward Foundation at www.forwardfoundation.org, earmarked for The 'Aumakua Music Project.
