Advertiser Staff

The male pedestrian struck by a pickup truck and killed last night in Kahului was identified today by Maui police as Franklin G. Boughner, 39.

According to police vehicular homicide unit investigators, Boughner was jaywalking on Pu'unene Avenue at 8:53 p.m. and was struck when he failed to yield the right of way to a 2003 Mazda pickup truck, 184 feet south of Kamehameha Avenue.

Boughner was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center, where he died.

The 31-year-old male driver of the pickup truck and his passenger, a 13-year-old boy, were not injured, police said.

The death is Maui's seventh traffic fatality of the year.
