State exec to speak in D.C. on airline market

Former state transportation director Barry Fukunaga will attend a U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation hearing on Hawai'i's air service market Thursday in Washington, D.C.

Fukunaga, who is now chief of staff to Gov. Linda Lingle, has been involved in the state's efforts to address the recent closure of Aloha Airlines and ATA Airlines. He will provide describe to lawmakers the transportation situation in Hawai'i, with a focus on airport services and infrastructure for the future.

Fukunaga served for 25 years with the state airports division, including airports manager, airports operations manager and airports services supervisor. He is a member of the American Association of Airport Executives and has served as a director of the Airport Council International – Pacific.

Also attending will be David Banmiller, chief executive officer of Aloha Airlines.
