New direction for Waterfront at Aloha Tower

By Wayne Harada
Advertiser Entertainment Writer

The Waterfront at Aloha Tower Marketplace is the new name of the banquet and events facility space at the water's edge at Aloha Tower Marketplace. The site, formerly Events At the Tower and earlier Kapono's, is where this Friday's Taj Mahal Hula Blues Band concert will be staged.

The name change is due to the transformation of the facility, which previously was a bar and now operates as an event facility capable of accommodating a wide range of functions, according to its operators.

"When we first took over the space we had an idea of what we wanted to do but needed some interim time to work out the details," said Rick Schneider one of the Waterfront's managing partners since May 2006, in a statement. "In the past year and a half we have learned a lot and have made the necessary adjustments and upgrades to the space to now provide the highest level of service as a premier banquet facility. We now feel confident that we can introduce this new product to the community in the way we had envisioned, and our new name reflects that."

The Waterfront is operated by Schneider and business partner David Booth, who also own and operate Events International Inc., an Island-based integrated event, promotional and marketing company that recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, staging projects here and throughout the Pacific Rim. Offices are located on the waterfront site.

"The Waterfront is a natural expansion of our Events International business as event and party planners," said Booth. "This space acts as a canvas for us to express the talents we've acquired in over 20 years in the events business. And what makes the Waterfront even more exciting is its versatility. Our lease with Aloha Tower Marketplace allows us the flexibility of expanding to accommodate much larger groups. As an example, in the last year we've accommodated diverse events from 50 guests on our stage for Google, to 6,000 guests encompassing the entire Aloha Tower Marketplace for the CPCU Underwriters convention."

Musical events, like the Taj Mahal show, are part of the site's agenda, but fundraising parties open to the public are also regularly staged there.
