IRS offices in Honolulu, Hilo open Saturday

Advertiser Staff

The Internal Revenue Service's offices in Honolulu and Hilo will have extra hours Saturday to help with last-minute tax questions as the April 15 tax deadline draws near.

The IRS said the Honolulu office at 300 Ala Moana will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Saturday, while there will be similar hours the same day at the Hilo office at 101 Aupuni St. They are part of the almost 300 IRS offices that will be open this Saturday.

The tax agency is expecting a record number of tax returns this year because of stimulus payments tied to the filings. People who don't owe taxes may qualify for the payment but must file a return in order to qualify. No other filings are needed because the IRS will use the return to determine of someone is due one of the payments.

All IRS Taxpayer Assistance Centers, including the IRS office at 2050 Main St. in Wailuku, are open Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and have free tax preparation and filing for individuals and families whose income is $40,000 or less.

The IRS will also offer special Saturday hours on its toll-free help line at 800-829-1040 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m..

People visiting IRS offices for help are asked to bring key documents, including a photo I.D.
