DOWN UNDER MASH-UP

The Australian John Butler Trio plays a mash-up of rootsy rock that's heavily influenced by reggae, hip-hop, blues and jazz, and densely packed with frontman John Butler's views on life.

The trio makes its first appearance in the Islands at 8 tonight at Pipeline Cafe, but there's a good chance it won't be its last. (Hint: Butler, right, is buddies with Jack Johnson.) Our own soul-baring siren Paula Fuga opens the show. Tickets are $25 to $35 at Ticketmaster outlets.
