Heavy rain for Kauai, strengthening trade winds forecast

The trade winds will strengthen over the next few days as an area of high pressure builds to the north of the state, according to the National Weather Service.

A flash flood watch for the entire state was canceled about 3:15 this morning, but locally heavy rain remains a possibility for Kaua'i today, forecasters said.

The trade winds may be rather showery tomorrow and into the weekend with a shearline draped over the northern portion of the island chain.

Here's a closer look at what to expect during the next few days:

Today: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. East wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Tonight: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. East wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Friday: Scattered showers, mainly after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. East wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Friday night: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. East wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Saturday: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. East wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Saturday night: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. Northeast wind around 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
