Hospital improvement projects get $1.66 million

Gov. Linda Lingle has released $1.66 million for improvements to Kula Hospital and Maui Memorial Medical Center, which are overseen by Hawai'i Health Systems Corp.

Kula Hospital will receive $875,000 for work such as improvements to the facility's electrical system, including upgrading the emergency generators and fuel tank, and connecting emergency power systems to patient rooms. The project is scheduled to be completed in December.

Other projects include flooring and plumbing upgrades, replacement of the cesspool and grease trap and roof work to prevent leaks.

At Maui Memorial Medical Center, $785,000 will be used for plumbing upgrades, reroofing and exterior repairs, replacement of the laundry exhaust system, and the design for installation of two new generators.
