Advertiser Staff

Five moderate-sized earthquakes have rattled the Northern Mariana Islands area during the past nine hours, the U.S. Geological Survey reports.

The quakes, each of which have been assigned a preliminary magnitude of between 5.0 and 5.1, began about 3:30 p.m. Thursday Hawai'i time.

The last of the temblors, assigned a magnitude of 5.0, occurred just prior to 12 a.m. today.

There have been no reports of injuries or damage stemming from the series of earthquakes.
