Bhutanese monks to perform ritual

Five Bhutanese monks, serving as spiritual guardians at the Honolulu Academy of Arts' "The Dragon's Gift: The Sacred Arts of Bhutan," will perform puja (rituals) at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday to next Friday in a special altar room.

Phub Tenzin, Sherab Dorji, Lhab Tshering, Kinley Tenzin and Sangay Rinchen will observe Zhabdrung Kuchoe, a national holiday in Bhutan that celebrates the life and achievements of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the 17th-century unifier of Bhutan.

Attendees may bring offerings (fruit, food, snacks, flowers and money) to placed on the specially commissioned altar that was made by master craftsman in Bhutan. The monks will have an afternoon tea at 2:30 p.m.
