BENEFIT: APRIL 19

Some of Hawai'i's finest chefs and restaurants are gearing up for Taste of East O'ahu. The annual event will feature ono grinds from Assagio Hawaii Kai, Chai's Island Bistro, Roy's Hawaii Kai — with Roy Yamaguchi himself serving tastings of his "Hawaiian Fusion Cuisine" — and many more. HASR Wine Company offers samples of a variety of wines and beers. Entertainment will be provided by Jon Osorio and Stephen Brown, Swingin' Tradewinds Jazz Band and Rosanna Perch. Proceeds from the night will go to the Angel Network, CBTS Montessori Preschool and Youth of CBTS.

FESTIVAL: APRIL 19

The Mayor's Office of Culture and the Arts presents the first-ever Art on the Block, in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the City's Commission on Culture and the Arts. Headlining this all-day event are vocalists Kristian Lei and Jasmine Trias; other entertainment includes taiko drumming, hula, Hawaiian chanting and a Chinese dragon dance. The event will also feature cultural exhibits, local artists, food, demonstrations and more, giving residents and visitors the chance to experience the mix of cultures of the Islands.

CONCERT: APRIL 20

Master Hindustani slide guitarist Debashish Bhattacharya returns to Hawai'i this month for a performance at the Doris Duke Theatre. Bhattacharya, known for combining western guitar and traditional Indian instruments, is an innovator in development of a "trinity" of slide guitars including the 24-string hollow neck Chaturangui, the 14-string Gandharvi and the Anandi, a 4-string slide ukulele. The show will feature selections from his new album, "Calcutta Chronicles: Indian Slide Guitar Odyssey."

CONCERT: APRIL 21

Last seen in the Islands for the 2008 Pro Bowl halftime show just a couple of months ago, Lifehouse is back for a show at Pipeline. The alternative-Christian rock band is coming off its "Disarray Tour"; expect to hear songs from its latest album, "Who Are We," as well past hits such as "You and Me" and "Hanging by a Moment."

EXPO: APRIL 25-27

The 33rd annual Spring New Products Show hits the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall with more locally made products and businesses as well as Taste of the Pacific, with food from some of Hawai'i's favorite restaurants and caterers. There will be a meet-and-greet with new University of Hawai'i football coach Greg McMackin and performances by the newly reformed theKRUSH, the cast of the Stars In Concert and Afatia, 2007 Na Hoku Hanohano Award winner. And there's a chance to win a $100,000 extreme home interior makeover and other prizes and giveaways.

FESTIVAL: APRIL 26

The Bishop Museum will mark Earth Day with the Grow Hawaiian Festival. The eco-event will feature weavers, dancers, kapamakers, horticulturlists, biologists, among others. Also, kumu hula will share personal stories on the uses of plants in hula. There will be booths about local conservation and sustainability efforts, experts on-hand for science questions, entertainment by Pilioha and hula dancers, and more.

Take a hilarious journey back to Sherwood Forest and revisit Robin Hood with the award-winning Sounds of Aloha Chorus. Also featuring the 2007 International Silver Medalist quartet, OC Times from California and the Kahuku High School Show Choir. Theatre organ stylings by Don Conover.

It's time to dust off your dancing shoes and pull on those old bell bottoms for The '70s Nightclub Nightclub Reunion. Performing will be five old-school bands: New Experience with original pre-Krush members, Glass Candle, White Light, Power Point and Greenwood — all playing the hits from the era of disco and funk. Tiny Tadani will be the emcee for the night.

COMPETITION: MAY 14-17

Things will heat up at the Polynesian Cultural Center next month with the 16th Annual World Fireknife Dance Championship. Competitors from around the world will showcase the daring and acrobatic art of Samoan fireknife dancing. The final round of the competition will be held during intermission of PCC's Horizons Night Show, and the champion will be announced following the conclusion of the second show. Other competitions slated for the week include: Warrior's Duet Fireknife, Female Warriors of Samoa, and Pacific Junior Fireknife.
