Big Isle police seeking help in robbery case

Advertiser Staff

Hawai'i County police are asking for the public's help in identifying a group of men who attacked two other men on Banyan Drive on March 2.

A group of approximately five men approached a 26-year-old Hilo man and a 20-year-old man from France near a bus stop on the golf course side of the road and asked them if they wanted to make a donation. The suspects then knocked both victims to the ground, searched their pockets and removed their wallets and wrist watches. One of the attackers was described as having short, bleached hair and wearing a green basketball jersey.

Both victims suffered injures, but the Hilo man refused treatment. He drove the French man to Hilo Medical Center, where the French man was treated for his injuries and released.

At the time of the assault, numerous people were gathered in the vicinity.

Police ask anyone with information about the identity of the attackers to call Officer Jeremy Kubojiri at 808-961-2213 or the Police Department's non-emergency line at 808-935-3311.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 808-961-8300 in Hilo or 808-329-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
